Research Impact, Innovation and Engagement Officer, Faculty of Biological Sciences
University of Leeds
Speaker Bio:
I work as the Research Impact, Innovation, and Engagement Officer in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Leeds. With over a decade of experience in biomedical research and having had experience in university teaching, I bring a unique perspective to bridging the gap between scientific research and the real-world Impact. Being a researcher and having worked in two countries, I have witnessed the effort the academic community puts into research but have also witnessed the lack of focus on creating impact. In my current role, I support academics with identifying the impact of their work, mapping the impact and work on Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2029 submissions of three units of assessment. I also focus on developing engagement opportunities for researchers. I am passionate about inclusive research communication and am particularly interested in showcasing interdisciplinary research and co-produced outcomes with non-academic Partners. I am committed to promoting a vibrant, outward-facing research environment and am especially interested in how institutional structures can better support long-term impact generation. I am also contributing to faculty-wide communications strategies to strengthen research engagement. I am interested in understanding and supporting the development of strategies to shape how universities understand, value, and resource research impact.
