Speaker Bio:
Dr. Sanne Elbrink is a researcher at Durham University, dedicated to bridging the gap between research and practice to drive meaningful social impact. At Durham, she works within the Social Science Enterprise Lab (SSEL), where she focuses on scaling the reach and impact of social science research through commercialisation. Within the SSEL, she co-developed a method that brings together the theoretical knowledge of social scientists with the practical, experiential knowledge of professionals to co-create solutions for complex social challenges. Sanne is also the co-founder of Social Science Ventures, a university spin-out that supports other universities in adopting and implementing this approach to social science commercialisation. Before moving to the UK, Sanne built up fifteen years of experience as a policymaker and project manager in the Netherlands and Australia. Throughout her career, she has established numerous interprofessional partnerships and networks, including those involving individuals with lived experience. Her academic work explores how communities of practice can enhance knowledge exchange and learning. She draws on participatory action research and co-design methodologies, with a particular focus on tackling pressing public health issues. Sanne is passionate about producing both academic and practical outcomes side-by-side, firmly believing that rigorous research and real-world application can enrich and strengthen each other.
