Mhairi Stewart

Mhairi supports strategic culture change and policy development through engaged and transdisciplinary research and practice at institutional, national, and international levels. In the Department of ‘Science and Society’, Mhairi oversees a growing centre for practice-led research into public engagement with a personal focus on the reflective benefits of public engagement to academic stakeholders. She supports strategic culture change and policy development at institutional, national, and international levels, regularly advising policy makers, funders, and senior managers on research and societal engagement. Previously, Mhairi was the Head of Public Engagement for the University of St Andrews, leading on institutional embedding of public engagement and several highly recognised innovative projects. These included INTERSECTIONS, the first dedicated international delivery of European Researchers’ Night achieving meaningful engagement over international borders. Mhairi has been recognised for her engagement work, receiving the Herald Higher Education Partnership Award, the Wellcome Image Award, the ARMA Outstanding Collaboration Award, and the 2015 Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Medal for Innovation in Public Engagement.
