Jennifer Lockett
Speaker Bio:
Jen Lockett specialises in turning research excellence into real-world impact, drawing on over a decade of experience at the interface of science, strategy, and stakeholder engagement. As Head of Integrated Research, Impact and Support Services at Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), she brings together expertise in impact, project management, and professional services to foster a culture where impact is embedded throughout the research lifecycle. Since joining PML in 2011, Jen has managed complex international projects and contributed to multiple large-scale funding successes. In 2016, she became Senior Impact Manager, leading the development of PML’s impact case studies for the NERC Centre Evaluation (aligned with the UK REF). Under her guidance, PML achieved the highest impact scores of all NERC Centres in the 2020 evaluation. Building on this success, she led the creation of PML’s first Research Impact Strategy, which was independently recognised as one of the best globally. Jen has pioneered practical tools and training that empower researchers to make impact an integral part of project planning and delivery, shifting it from an afterthought to a core consideration. She has delivered impact training both within PML and internationally, supporting researchers and institutions to build skills, confidence, and strategic approaches to impact. Jen continues to lead initiatives focused on capacity building, stakeholder engagement, impact tracking, and case study development. Motivated by a lifelong love of the ocean, she is passionate about connecting science with real-world change.
